Miao
 The
Miao is a people. There are about 10 million Miao, most living in the
south of China in mountanious parts. About 1 million are living outside
China. There are about 300000 Miao in the United States and 10000 In
France. In the West they often are called Hmong/Mong, but this is a subgroup
of the Miao. They have there own languages, but there is no written language.

As often with minority groups, traditions stay more alive.
Even nowadays there is an extremely rich tradition in decoration textiles.
The diversity and quality is really surprising. There are a lot of different
styles, also because, often, the Miao villages are very isolated. There
are geometrical styles, sometimes reminding me of Oriëntal carpets, especially
the so-called "dragon carpets". There is a "cubic" style. Or more realistic
styles with traditional Chinese motifs, like the dragon. The color richness
